We all experience low points in life – moments when we’re feeling down and hopeless, and it seems like nothing will ever get better.
Have you ever felt this way? If yes, it just means you’re human.
After these chaotic past two years, mental health struggles are at an all-time high. It seems like everyone you know has faced their fair share of challenges.
But one of the main things that helps people during tough times is having a strong support system – people who are there for you. Even if they can’t completely fix what’s going on, their presence sure can help.
At Kenzi’s Causes, we want to be that warm, inviting support system for our Kidz and families. Why? Because we know how much having a dependable safety net means to us.
This is why we want to introduce you to Brittany Tafoya. She shares an inspiring story of what is possible when you lean into your community and allow yourself to be vulnerable with people who truly care.
Meet Brittany Tafoya + Her Family
Brittany Tafoya and her 3 kidz have been a part of Kenzi’s Causes for the last four years. Brittany is a single mother to Cloe, Junior, and Nicky – two preteens and a four-year-old.
“I left an abusive relationship and Kenzi’s Causes helped me get on my feet,” shared Brittany. “[Kenzi’s Causes] supplied brand new furniture, such as beds and a dining room table, and even helped purchase some clothes for the kids! One time I severely needed help with rent. I was struggling and out of work unexpectedly and Jessica and Julie helped find me a grant to help pay my rent for three months and that honestly saved me from eviction. Kenzi Causes made me feel like someone actually cares.”
The ability to have people show up during hard times, especially when it feels like everyone else has pulled away, is one of the greatest gifts.
We can all think of someone who’s been that person to us – who had a solution or an idea or was just a friendly, listening ear, offering empathy and support when life felt unmanageable..
At Kenzi’s Causes, it’s our goal to be a place that our Kidz and families can always count on. Even if we don’t have a perfect solution at that very moment, it’s our commitment to show up and be a force of good within precious lives.
“…Kenzis Causes has been a true blessing! I had no idea how much I needed it…I’m so grateful to be involved in this group. Not only has it helped my children but it has also helped me realize that there are amazing people in this world!” said Brittany.
When life throws you curveballs, it can feel like you’re completely alone, and asking for help can be scary. But when you finally do, you’ll be surprised to realize just how much you actually needed that support and care.
By remaining a constant presence, Kenzi’s Causes is able to promote ourselves as a reliable safe place for our families.
Plus, we get to celebrate the joyful moments, too!
Although we’re focusing on tough times here, Kenzi’s Causes also has the opportunity to be there during positive times.
Brittany shared that her kids, “love watching movies and walking in nature or going for long drives to see different scenery. My kids love trying my new recipes.” What’s more, because of this network of support, “their grades are increasing and it seems like their stress level is decreasing.”
It is starting to feel like some of the collective anxiety and pressure from the last two years is easing up, even if just a bit. Brittanny said, “the pandemic has taken a mental toll on all of us so the happier I can make them the better I feel about the situation.”
And honestly, we can probably all relate to that statement in some capacity. Experiencing happiness and helping others feel joy is a gift, and it’s one that often comes when you have a team of community cheerleaders, like us at Kenzi’s Causes, to lift you up in both the good times and bad.
“Every single thing has been beneficial and helpful. The Christmas events, the seasonal events, the extra assistance when I first moved into my apartment, the grant for my home so I wouldn’t lose my house during the beginning of the pandemic. All the memories we are creating are very beneficial,” said Brittany
That’s the power of being there during both the highs and lows, and we are so grateful to be able to share stories like this one with you.
