Amber Gersch—August’s Featured DfD Volunteer Superstar

Like so many of our volunteers, Amber got involved last December, as part of our toy shop. And like lots of other volunteers, she’s found she wants to continue to be a part of Dolls for Daughters®. We are fortunate to have her caring, passion, and ongoing support!

1. How did you learn about Dolls for Daughters® and Kenzi’s Kidz?

I learned about Dolls for Daughters® from Angie Austin who was going to attend the wrapping party last December and so I went to help as well.

2. Why did you decide to volunteer with Dolls for Daughters®?

I have always had a passion to mentor, volunteer for children and help them have a successful life. I have always had a heightened caring and maternal instinct, which is why I went to college to be a 1st grade teacher.

3.  How long have you been a volunteer with Dolls for Daughters®?

I have only been a volunteer since December 2012. My first event was the wrapping party to prepare for our toy drive. I have also been able to help distribute flyers for the Tap n’ Run at two different times. I often ask Jessica Bachus if I can help with anything, so we can continue to be a success and put smiles on children’s faces.

4. What is your most memorable experience volunteering with Dolls for Daughters® and which event was it at?

My most memorable experience was seeing children’s faces when they attended the toy drive. I felt happy because they were going to have a Christmas because of Jessica Bachus and all that we do.

5. Have you participated in any fundraising event that Dolls for Daughters® had held?

I am new to Dolls for Daughters® and Kenzi’s Kidz, so I have not had an opportunity to participate in any other fundraising but I will certainly jump in and help when the opportunity presents itself.

6.  Have you shared your volunteer experience with your friends and family? If so, what was their reaction?

I have told my friends about my volunteering for Dolls for Daughters®. They are not surprised because they know my passion for children. I haven’t told my family because I don’t believe they would really understand or be supportive. 

7. If you did share your experience, have any of your friends or family become Dolls for Daughters® volunteers because of it?
 
I have told my friends about the work I do with Dolls for Daughters®, but unfortunately, they don’t share my same enthusiasm at this point in their lives. 

8. With so many organizations in need of volunteers, what suggestions or advice do you have for people who consider volunteering, especially when it comes to choosing where to offer their help?

I would encourage them to find their own passion and dig deep inside themselves and make another person feel special and loved because of their own compassion!
