Heather Nehls - Board of Directors Secretary

Heather

My connection to Dolls for Daughters®: I met Jessica when I first moved to Colorado 7 years ago. It was obvious to me from the beginning that Jessica is such an amazing person – this is evident in how she successfully manages her commitment to family and community, her work and her personal goals. Given her strength, it was very difficult for me to comprehend the magnitude of her loss when Kenzi had died, and it was even more difficult to witness my friend’s grief. Dolls for Daughters® is an inspiration, and it is a tribute to the strength that lies within all mothers – the strength to live, remember and cherish the things that truly matter. I take great pride in supporting an organization whose sole purpose is to put a simple smile on the faces of underprivileged children. Knowing that the love for Jessica’s daughter is the driving passion behind the organization, I was honored to accept the invitation to be on the Board and truly make a difference.

Personal background: I was born and raised in Amarillo, Texas and moved to Colorado 7 years ago. I love to take part in events that are personally challenging and those that are spiritually rewarding. I am a runner and a road cyclist and try to take part in races on a regular basis – whatever I can do to enjoy all that Colorado has to offer! Life is too short to not appreciate the beauty around you and recognize the goodness of others.

Professional background: I obtained a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX and spent the first several years of my career with Ernst & Young here in Denver. Since that time, I have continued to work in accounting, primarily focused on internal controls design and business process improvement for public companies. I am in the Internal Audit department at Intrepid Potash, Inc, managing the implementation of the Sarbanes-Oxley program. I am a licensed CPA and am a member of the Colorado Society of CPAs.

Kenzi's Causes

In 2007, Jessica Bachus started Dolls for Daughters®, after her daughter Kenzi was stillborn. She created an annual holiday Toy Drive for Colorado children who would not otherwise have toys during the holidays. Today, Kenzi's Causes collects more than 100,000 toys, stocking stuffers, books, toothbrush/toothpaste kits, backpacks, lunch boxes and other items to change the lives of children in Colorado through our programs. At this annual event, families are also provided with community resources to help improve their lives and the lives of their children.
