How Your Donations Are Impacting the Lives of Our Kenzi’s Kidz Families

When Hard Times Come – We Show Up

When any family is facing something hard, the basics are typically the first things to go unattended or unnoticed. Bus passes, clothing, and meals take a back seat to the more pressing matters happening around the world. You’ve probably noticed this in your own life — how easy is it to forget to pay a bill or let your house cleaning go unattended when something goes wrong in your life — sound familiar? I think we can all relate to that. That’s why, over the past year, we’ve been paying extra attention to providing the basics for our families. As the pandemic has taken over, so many of our families are in need of basic things. The really remarkable part though is that in providing very everyday needs there always ends up being something extraordinary going on, too. So we wanted to share one of these seemingly ordinary – but truly inspiring – stories with you this week.

Meet Sharon Fusilier & Her Family

For the past two years, Sharon Fusilier's three grandchildren – Jeremiah (12), Josiah (11), & Nevaiah (10) – have been a part of The Kenzi’s Kidz Program. But, as the world began to shift and things closed down, Kenzi’s Causes stepped in to help. From clothing to furniture, food, bus passes, and beyond – Sharon and her grandchildren were able to find some sense of normalcy in the difficult times of 2020/2021, and it made a big difference.
“When all of the world was closed down – Kenzi’s Causes made sure that we had the things we need.” said Sharon.
We all know how challenging the past two years have been. Emotions have run high, grief is so widespread, and it’s more important than ever to take care of ourselves and our mental health. One of the main things that gets in the way of taking good care of ourselves, though, is when you have to worry about the mundane. That’s why prioritizing basic needs for our families is so important. When you don’t have to worry about the basics, it frees you up to take care of the bigger, more important things at hand. Sharon was able to be a more present grandmother when she didn’t have to worry about bus fares. Jeremiah, Josiah, & Nevaiah were able to focus on just being kids and enjoying their favorite activities – like watching movies and playing basketball – when they didn’t have to worry about having clean clothes, of course. 😉

That’s why to us – helping our families is about more than a simple bus pass. It’s about allowing our families to live their lives with a little less worry and a lot more peace.

And wouldn’t we all benefit from a little of that? We think so. ❤️

Being There When Times Get Hard

At Kenzi’s Causes, we recognize there’s a lot more going on in the lives of our families than meets the eye. So when we heard Sharon’s brother passed away, we wanted to show up. “Julie gave me a shoulder to cry on. My brother passed away and I was supporting my mother through it, but I had no one supporting me. Julie was there for me.” said Sharon. It’s these simple acts of showing up in the hard stuff that make the biggest impact on the families we serve + make us ALL a part of the Kenzi’s Causes family.
“I consider them family – not just someone there,” said Sharon. “I thank them for everything they have done for my family and myself.”

All of This Is Only Possible Because of You.

Kenzi's Causes

In 2007, Jessica Bachus started Dolls for Daughters®, after her daughter Kenzi was stillborn. She created an annual holiday Toy Drive for Colorado children who would not otherwise have toys during the holidays. Today, Kenzi's Causes collects more than 100,000 toys, stocking stuffers, books, toothbrush/toothpaste kits, backpacks, lunch boxes and other items to change the lives of children in Colorado through our programs. At this annual event, families are also provided with community resources to help improve their lives and the lives of their children.
