The Pierce Family’s Journey With Kenzi’s Causes

Terri Pierce left her home in 2012 with her three sons, headed for a new beginning in an apartment at Mountain Terrace in Westminster, Colorado. The Pierces started rebuilding life from the ground up, with Terri guiding her boys through a new environment while creating stability after previous hardships. In 2014, everything shifted. Jessica, the event planner at Mountain Terrace, nominated the Pierce family to be part of Kenzi’s Causes. What began as a simple act of kindness became a turning point—one that would shape the next decade of the Pierce family’s life. “From the very beginning, they welcomed us with open arms,” Terri shared. “They never made us feel like anything less than family.” For Terri and her boys, Kenzi’s Causes became more than a program; it became a lifeline. During years when connection with extended family was limited, the organization stepped in with compassion, consistency, and unwavering support. Over time, the Pierces received: ● Christmas gifts that brought joy back into the holidays ● Backpacks and school supplies that eased financial strain ● Holiday groceries and gift cards that kept the family fed ● Birthday support and essentials that helped Terri meet her boys’ needs Beyond meeting essential needs, Kenzi’s Causes created space for the Pierces to simply be a family. Some traditions became especially meaningful: ● Thanksgiving dinner at the Wishbone Restaurant ● Breakfast with Santa ● Annual Mother’s Day photos ● Celebrating Kenzi’s birthday each year For Terri’s sons, the K Club became a transformative part of their lives. It offered guidance, structure, and, most importantly, positive male role models. One of those role models was Jeff Jackson, a volunteer whose impact on the boys was profound. He took them fishing, to the train museum, to Boondocks, and even involved them in community clean‑ups. He showed them what it meant to give back, to be kind, and to lead with integrity. Jeff also brought joy as Santa each year and was always ready to help, delivering furniture, surprising the boys with a basketball hoop, and showing up whenever the family needed support. In 2019, Terri had the honor of presenting him with Volunteer of the Year. His passing in 2021 was a heartbreaking loss, but his influence lives on in the Pierce boys. When Jeff passed, Julie ensured the K Club continued. Nate Swanson stepped in as a new leader, quickly forming meaningful connections with the boys and continuing the legacy of mentorship that has meant so much to the family. With stability and support behind them, Terri’s sons have been able to focus on their dreams: ● Brandon is attending Colorado State University, studying Mechanical Engineering ● Bradon is graduating from Westminster High School this year ● Bryce, now in 11th grade, is on track to graduate as well Today, the Pierces describe themselves as loving, happy, stable, and deeply grateful. They know that if hardship ever returns, they have a community that will stand beside them. “Kenzi’s Causes has given us not only support,” Terri said, “but a large, loving extended family.” Their journey is a testament to what happens when compassion meets consistency, when a community chooses to show up, and when families are given the dignity and support they deserve.
