Being an emotional support for families going through hard times is one of the most important things we do at Kenzi’s Causes – and it’s one of the most important things you can do in your own community, too.
We all have had a time in our life when we were going through an emotionally taxing time. If we’re honest with ourselves – it can be totally exhausting. And the number one thing that helps during a time like that is knowing that someone is there for you – regardless of what it is you are going through.
Whether that was a loss of a loved one, a hard time in your family, or grief over an opportunity lost in your life – or even a season of depression or anxiety – going through hard times can feel absolutely excruciating. And it becomes even harder when you don’t know where to turn for support.
At Kenzi’s Causes, we want to be that place of steady, unwavering support for our Kidz and our families – every single month.
We’ve said it before, but it’s always been important to us that being a part of Kenzi’s Causes is not just about food pantries and toy drives but that it’s really about being there for our families and showing up – especially when times are hard.
So this month, we’re sharing the story of one of our families who has not only been impacted by our community of support but who has been a support for others as well.
Meet Maria Carrillo + Her Family
Maria Carrillo and Eliazha have been a part of Kenzi’s Causes for the past 14 years.
And just like all of us over those fourteen years, they have experienced many highs and lows. Throughout it all, Kenzi’s Causes has been there to be a support system – no matter what they were going through.
“Kenzi’s Kidz has made my family feel loved, cared for, and accounted for,” said Maria. “Also they were a major support for me during my time of loss.”
We can all remember a time when we were going through a loss and just needed to feel accounted for and cared for. Knowing Kenzi’s Causes is able to be that for our families is one of the best feelings there is – we are so grateful to be that presence in their lives.
At Kenzi’s Causes, we want to be that place where you can come during loss, grief, and sadness. We’ll hold that space for you to be your emotional support system and help you put the pieces back together so you can move forward with your life.
When we asked Maria what’s been the most important and meaningful part of being in our Kenzi’s Causes Family she said…
“Emotional support, keeping in touch when I am in need of help, they are there for us. I am blessed to have them in our lives,” said Maria.
And we are blessed to have these families in our lives, too. Through the ups and downs, it’s one of our greatest honors to walk through life with all of our families and be that constant safe place to come.
Throughout these years, we’ve watched Eliazha grow up. He is now 14 and “loves basketball, going to movies, barbecuing with family, shopping of course. Swimming, in arcades like Dave & Buster’s.”
Eliazha has been able to have a safe place to come to just be a kid – as have so many of our other Kidz in the program – and that’s one of the best parts of all of this to us!
