Family Spotlight: A Story Of Support & Survival

For many of our Kenzi’s Kidz and Kenzi’s Causes Families, being in this program is the difference between living life in constant struggle and having peace of mind that everything is going to be okay. It’s one of the many reasons we do what we do. We want to make sure our families know they’re in a community of support that will always work to ensure their needs are met. This week, we want to share the story of one of our families who has been impacted by others in our community through involvement, volunteer work, and donations.  

Meet Tonya Tolliver + Her Family

Tonya Tolliver and her five children, David, Dommonic, HaRossi, Victoria, and Vinessa have been a part of Kenzi’s Causes for five years. Tonya is a single mom, and her kids are all between the ages of 9 and 15, so they’ve spent much of their lives in our community. To Tonya, the program has not only meant emotional stability through feeling supported but also survival through getting their basic needs met.

“Kenzi's Causes has helped me and my children survive. They have reassured us that people care to help those that are still finding their way in life. They have accepted us and treated us as family. We are forever grateful for all this program does,” said Tonya.

Because of your donations, Kenzi’s Causes can provide everything from backpacks and school supplies to home products, food, and more. This means so much to our families – especially when they can’t buy fundamental items for themselves.

Tonya said, “The most beneficial thing Kenzi's Causes has done for us is provided continued support and assurance they are here to help us in our times of need. I really appreciate the food as well because sometimes I’m not able to meet our needs and they have been here for us.”

In addition, Kenzi’s Causes can provide emotional support and reassurance, relieving our families of day-to-day stressors so they can spend more time enjoying their lives and what they love doing. Tonya said, “we like to play games together, read together, do some community work, and discuss any issues the kids may have...”

“I just want to add that we are forever grateful and I plan to pay it forward once I get fully secured in my career. Thank you all forever and ever,” said Tonya.
