Family Spotlight: How Warm Coats Are Making A Difference This Winter

With temperatures dropping, one thing that’s easy to take for granted is warmth. Whether that’s snuggling by a fire at night with a warm cup of hot chocolate, turning up your heat a few degrees when it gets extra cold, or putting on your favorite jacket before you head outside, being warm is an amazing feeling. Most of the time, we don’t think about warmth as a luxury – it’s something we often take for granted. But what if that wasn’t the case? What if something as simple as a warm jacket made a difference in your life? That’s the reality for many of our Kenzi’s Causes families, and because of your support, we’re able to help them stay nice and warm this winter! In this month’s blog, we’re sharing the story of one of our families, which we’re certain will warm your heart as winter looms overhead.

Meet Hoyt + His Family

Hoyt Hedgecock and his five children, Taonna, Olivia, Kamera, Hoyt, and Phoebe have been a part of Kenzi’s Causes since 2018. They range in age from ages 11 to 20 and love watching movies, playing games, and going on family walks. But as cold weather continues to creep in, spending quality time outdoors has been increasingly challenging. Even doing simple tasks like checking the mail or running errands requires a little extra warmth. That’s why Hoyt was extra grateful for the gift of new jackets this season to keep himself and his family insulated in the chilly winter days.

Hoyt said, “everything [Kenzi’s Causes] has done has been much needed, like shoes, clothes, and food for the kids as well as coats every year.”

These coats not only take care of blocking out the external cold, but they also show Hoyt and her family that people care. Each time Hoyt or his children put on their new winter coats, they’re reminded that someone is empathetic enough to help provide for them so they don’t have to suffer. It’s because of people like you that Kenzi’s Causes is able to make this kind of difference in the lives of our families. We asked Hoyt to describe Kenzi’s Causes in one word. His response?

“Outstanding.”

His message to readers is simple: “[You] have helped my family so much throughout the years and I just want to say thank you so much.”

Kenzi's Causes

In 2007, Jessica Bachus started Dolls for Daughters®, after her daughter Kenzi was stillborn. She created an annual holiday Toy Drive for Colorado children who would not otherwise have toys during the holidays. Today, Kenzi's Causes collects more than 100,000 toys, stocking stuffers, books, toothbrush/toothpaste kits, backpacks, lunch boxes and other items to change the lives of children in Colorado through our programs. At this annual event, families are also provided with community resources to help improve their lives and the lives of their children.
