Family Spotlight: Three Things Everyone Needs: Love, Support, and Encouragement!

How do you ensure the most important people around you feel these things? We’re discussing exactly that in this week’s article…

There are some emotions that every person needs to feel in their lives, both during their highest of highs and lowest of lows. To us, love, support, and encouragement are universal necessities.
  • Love – so we know that we’re valued and cared for.
  • Support – so we know we have people to turn to when times get hard.
  • Encouragement – so we have people cheering us on throughout life’s ups and downs.
With these three things, you can do anything. We really believe that. But without them,  everything feels drastically more challenging. So this month, it felt essential to introduce you to one of our Kenzi’s Causes Families who has experienced incredible love, support, and encouragement and is here to share their story with you!

Meet Alexis Calderon + Her Family

Alexis and her family have been a part of Kenzi’s Causes since 2018!

Tino is a mechanic, Alexis is a full-time student, and her kids are all elementary-aged. Genesia (10) loves the arts – especially crafts and the violin, Giana (8) is a gymnast-in-training, and Tino Jr. (6) is into all things sports and dinosaurs. Throughout the past 4 years, Alexis and her family have loved being a part of our program.
“Kenzi's Causes provides us with a lot, but the most meaningful to me is the love, support, and encouragement!” said Alexis. “We don't have very many people in our lives who lift us up when we're down, much less care about us and our needs. Kenzi's Causes always remind us that we're loved and cared for!”
We have all experienced feeling alone and defeated, which can be devastating! But what if during those very moments, a group of individuals showed you just how important you are? That is what we aim to do at Kenzi’s Cases. We want to be a space you can always rely on, regardless of what you’re going through, and feel confident that you’ll have a supportive group of people who genuinely care and want to help. When we asked Alexis what her family’s experience has been like with Kenzi’s Causes she said,
“Kenzi's Causes has made a huge impact on our lives and has honestly become family to us.”
And that’s precisely why we call it the “Kenzi’s Causes Family.” We spend time together, have fun, and support one another throughout it all. Alexis said, “the monthly events we can always count on being invited to, being remembered on birthdays and holidays, connections to other resources, and the genuine love and support for our family from Jessica and Julie means everything! There's also been financial support, such as donations of food, toiletries, and cleaning supplies as well as gift cards and help with extracurricular activities for our children when it's available!” It warms our hearts to hear these experiences and we hope it warms yours too.

Kenzi's Causes

In 2007, Jessica Bachus started Dolls for Daughters®, after her daughter Kenzi was stillborn. She created an annual holiday Toy Drive for Colorado children who would not otherwise have toys during the holidays. Today, Kenzi's Causes collects more than 100,000 toys, stocking stuffers, books, toothbrush/toothpaste kits, backpacks, lunch boxes and other items to change the lives of children in Colorado through our programs. At this annual event, families are also provided with community resources to help improve their lives and the lives of their children.
