Today my daughter is 4 years old. How I wish she were here to celebrate with us. We have balloons that we will send to her with messages from all of us, we will attend Mass that has been dedicated to her and we will go to lunch to celebrate. It might seem strange to some that we celebrate Kenzi’s birthday but why wouldn’t we?
Kenzi is one of our children and we want to celebrate how amazing she is just like our living children. Celebrating Kenzi’s birthday helps all of us cope with not having her here and knowing what was lost four years ago. It is another year of not seeing her beautiful face full of hope and promise. It is another year of not hearing her sweet voice telling me “Mommy I Love You.” It is another year of not having our family picture be a true family picture.
This year is a year to celebrate just like in years past. To celebrate what a blessing Kenzi has been to our family and to thousands of children. Kenzi has given me the strength to take what was lost and turn it into something beautiful. What a blessing it has been. It is an honor to be Kenzi’s Mommy.
I hope that 2011 brings as much joy in Kenzi’s memory as 2010 did. I also hope that everyone who reads this blog is moved to make a difference in the lives of others.
Sweet Kenzi know that I love and miss you dearly! I want to close with a quote from Helen Keller that I think is so powerful…. “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen, nor touched, but are felt in the heart.”
