DOLLS FOR DAUGHTERS ATTENDS A WALK TO REMEMBER
On October 9, 2010, Dolls for Daughters® had the privilege to be apart of A Walk to Remember. A Walk to Remember Foundation is based in Littleton, Colorado. It is a Non-Profit organized to help those touched by all types of infant loss, including pregnancy loss, neonatal loss, stillbirth, and SIDs. Dolls for Daughters® took part in A Walk to Remember Bereavement Area.
When I arrived to the Walk the morning of October 9, 2010 it was very chilly, but the sun was shining…a promise for good weather. Dolls for Daughters® table contained Lara Bars which were donated, candy bags for kiddos and information on how individuals could get involved this Holiday Season. It was around 9am when everyone started showing up. I couldn’t believe how many people were at the walk that had been touched by an infant loss. It was nice that Dolls for Daughters® had the opportunity to be present considering Jessica Bachus has walked the same path as many of these women that I spoke to. It was a great time to share Kenzi’s story and how Jessica Bachus and the Board of Directors wanted to give back to honor little Kenzi.
As the ceremony started we packed up our items and goodies and headed down to the stage to take part. My mom and I had a balloon for Kenzi, since The Bachus Family couldn’t be present this year. I can’t explain the overwhelming emotions that consume you as you hear each infant/child’s name called and see the balloons released. It was one the most beautiful ceremonies and heartbreaking all at the same time. Hearing the stories shared of grief and sadness of how infant loss affected these women, made it that much clearer for me why I have such a passion for Dolls for Daughters®.
