The holidays are a time full of celebration, giving thanks, and cheer. But for some families, the holidays prove to be a difficult time to provide for the ones they care about the most.
From Christmas gifts to holiday parties and huge family dinners, it can be challenging to make ends meet during this season. But with the support of our amazing donors, Kenzi’s Causes is able to provide for our Kidz and families so they can have a holiday season they look back on with fond memories for years to come.
In this month’s blog, we’re sharing one of those stories in the hopes that it will inspire you and shed light on what a massive difference you’re making this holiday season simply by being in our community.
Meet R.B. + Her Family
R.B. and her two boys have been a part of Kenzi’s Causes for eight years. This means they’ve been around for eight holiday seasons and they’ve been impacted by eight years worth of Kenzi’s Causes holiday traditions.
R.B.’s two boys LOVE the holidays. They’re big fans of all things legos, sports, the outdoors, and reading, which results in a ton of fun holiday gift options.
But, the holidays aren’t just about gifts, and as you know, our basic needs don’t go away during the holiday season. This can make it challenging to prioritize what your family wants versus what your family needs and that’s where Kenzi’s Causes steps in.
R.B. said, “Overall my family’s lives have been greatly improved by all the help we’ve received through Kenzi’s Causes to provide us with things I just wouldn’t have been able to get on my own and has improved our quality of life.”
She went on to say, “through Kenzi’s causes we were able to get our household needs met such as mattresses, bedding, and clothes after moving to a new apartment after experiencing domestic abuse. Through the years we have also been helped with food, school clothes and supplies, and other needs. Recently, through Kenzi’s Kidz, I was given a grant of $10,000 to pick out a reliable used car. This was huge for my family as we haven’t had reliable transportation in years. My boys are also blessed each year with Christmas gifts to make the holidays special for them.”
But as you know, at Kenzi’s Causes, it’s not just about getting tangible needs met, like Christmas gifts or a new car. It’s also about caring for our families on a deeper level through emotional support and experiences.
R.B. shared that one of her favorite parts of the program at Christmastime is getting to participate in holiday events and connect with other families.
She shared, “we are really looking forward to perhaps going to the Farm at Lee Martinez park and of course getting the Christmas gifts delivered, not just because it really makes the holiday special to have gifts to open, but the interaction with our adoptive gift giver is a real joy and meaningful.”
It’s these moments that make Kenzi’s Causes different. We love being able to step in to support with day-to-day needs, holiday gifts, and enjoyable experiences our Kidz and families will cherish forever.
We asked R.B. to describe Kenzi’s Causes in one word. Her response?
“Life-Changing.”
She continued, “I think the boys have learned that they are worthy of getting to experience diverse activities even though they come from a low-income household and also how profound it is to have others help when there is a need. Humans taking care of other humans is a great thing and we should always want to be grateful and pay it forward when able.”
