Their family faced adversity early on with the loss of their mother shortly after the birth of the youngest twins, Joel and Shekinah. Left to navigate life’s challenges without parental guidance, the siblings found support and strength in their older sisters, Kacey and Karen.
For the Shungu family, the Kenzi’s Kidz program has become a lifeline and a source of community support. “They’ve helped with getting the kids school supplies,” Karen explains, highlighting the practical assistance that has eased their journey. “But more than that, they’ve shown me how important family is, helping me in ways relatives can’t.”

One of the highlights for the Shungu family has been the Skate City events organized by Kenzi’s Kidz. “The kids get to meet other kids and see Jessica,” Karen explains, excitement evident in her voice. “It’s always fun seeing them have fun.”
