October is Infant Loss Awareness Month, a time to honor the memory of babies gone too soon and support families who have experienced this profound loss. In 2007, Jessica Bachus experienced one of the most devastating losses a mother can face—the stillbirth of her beloved daughter, Kenzi. Overwhelmed with grief, she made a life-changing decision: to channel her pain into creating something meaningful that would honor Kenzi’s memory and bring hope to others. From this profound loss, Kenzi’s Causes was born.
What started as a small initiative to collect toys for children has now grown into a nonprofit organization that has touched over 175,872 children’s lives throughout Colorado. Jessica’s determination to ensure that no child feels forgotten or unloved has helped thousands of underprivileged children and their families thrive. Through Kenzi’s Causes, she has created a legacy for Kenzi that brings smiles, resources, and opportunities to children who might otherwise go without.
Infant loss is a heartbreak experienced by too many families, yet it is often a topic shrouded in silence and stigma. In the United States alone, 1 in 175 births ends in stillbirth—an unimaginable reality for approximately 21,000 families each year. Globally, the statistics are even more staggering, with nearly 1.9 million stillbirths occurring annually, or one every 17 seconds(CDC) (UNICEF DATA).
Jessica’s story is one of resilience and hope, turning her personal tragedy into a movement that has created a lasting impact on communities across Colorado. Through Kenzi’s Causes, Jessica and the incredible community supporting this mission, critical resources and support have been provided to families in need
- 175,872 children’s lives touched: From educational support to holiday gifts, Kenzi’s Causes has brought life-changing opportunities to children who otherwise might not have access to these resources.
- Over 1.5 million toys and backpacks donated: Ensuring that every child has the tools they need, whether for school or special occasions like the holidays.
- 18,954 families impacted: Offering not just material support, but also hope, encouragement, and a sense of community during difficult times.
Jessica’s courage and commitment have created a ripple effect throughout Colorado. With the help of dedicated volunteers, generous donors, and community partners, Kenzi’s Causes continues to grow, providing underprivileged children with essentials and opportunities to build a brighter future.
