A word from the Treasurer…
Often people wonder if their contributions are tax deductible? Dolls for Daughters® is a 501(c)(3) organization so the answer is YES! Whether you contribute money or dolls, you can take a deduction on your tax return. The IRS does have a few rules that must be followed and the responsibility lies with you, the donor.
1. A donor must have a bank record or written communication from a charity for any monetary contribution before the donor can claim a charitable contribution on his/her federal income tax return.
2. A donor is responsible for obtaining a written acknowledgment from a charity for any single contribution of $250 or more before the donor can claim a charitable contribution on his/her federal income tax return.
The IRS says this responsibility lies with the donor but Dolls for Daughters® is here to help! We will provide a written receipt for all monetary contributions so you can claim the deduction. If you donate through paypal online, a receipt is automatically generated.
If you are donating dolls under $250 in value, you can go ahead and claim the deduction on your tax return. I recommend you keep the receipt from the store where you purchased the dolls just in case you are audited in the future. If you are donating dolls over $250 in value, you will need a receipt from us. If this is the case, be sure to contact me so I can verify your donation and provide you the proper receipt.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
