When Dana Morton joined Kenzi’s Kidz in 2015, she did everything possible to raise her growing family with love and stability. She was preparing for the arrival of her youngest child, Christian, and trying to make ends meet for her daughters, Natasha and Katrina. Like many parents facing financial hardship, Dana didn’t just need a handout; she needed a village.
Since then, Kenzi’s Causes has been part of that village. And through the Kenzi’s Kidz program, the Morton family has experienced what it means to be supported, seen, and cared for, not just during emergencies, but every step of the way.
“They helped me get everything I needed for when I had my son,” Dana says. “They helped get my daughters’ clothes for school, school supplies and backpacks for all three of my children, and even helped me with gas. It’s helped me financially, with food, household items, and so much more.”
More than just material needs, the program gave Dana and her kids something even more valuable: togetherness.
“All the family events, skating, the park, swimming, family pictures, and bowling, that’s what we love the most. We get to spend time together as a family, and I could never afford those things.”
The Mortons are a close-knit family who make the most of every moment. They go to church every Sunday. Their home is filled with activity and imagination. Natasha, now 17, participates in swimming, cheerleading, and poms. Katrina, 12, loves math and plays school at home.
Christian, 6, is just as happy racing Hot Wheels as caring for his baby dolls. They are full of life and love, and because of Kenzi’s Kidz, full of opportunities.
Dana’s children now get to attend summer camps instead of being indoors all day. “Camp helps them be out, active, and around positive people,” she says. This year, Katrina has the opportunity to attend Hip Hop Camp, where she can express herself through movement and creativity, something she’s always loved. At $275, the cost of a week at camp is far out of reach for Dana. But for supporters of Kenzi’s Kidz, it’s a chance to give a child joy, connection, and unforgettable memories.
Through it all, what stands out most to Dana isn’t just what her family has received. It’s the people who have walked with them.
“What we like the most is being able to see Jessica and Julie every month,” she shares. “They’re not just the people who run the program, they’re part of our family now. They’ve helped support me in so many ways. We love you, Jessica and Julie.”
Kenzi’s Kidz didn’t just provide support. It became family.
